Fancy Dress Competition on Different Cultures of the World

Culture is the sum of attitudes, customs, and beliefs that distinguishes one group of people from another. Culture is transmitted, through language, material objects, ritual, institutions, and art, from one generation to the next. In today’s multicultural society it becomes very essential to get familiar with the various cultures all over the world. Keeping this as objective, fancy-dress competition was held in our college on 9th March, 2017 at the seminar hall. The theme of the competition was different cultures of the world. The students from F.Y. B.Ed. and S.Y. B.Ed. class participated in the competition. The participants dressed up in different costumes and styles which represent different countries. The participants depicted their respective countries through clothing, accessories, artifacts, language, songs, dance etc. They gave introduction of the country and its culture they were showcasing. The fancy dress competitions improve the socialization skills and communication skills as they are pushed out of their comfort zone and made to mingle with others in different costumes.

Session on “Greetings in Various Culture”

Greeting is an act of communication in which human beings intentionally make their presence known to each other, to show attention or social status. Ms. Teena Johny from S.Y. B.Ed. has wonderfully presented the way in which the people of other countries greet others when they meet them, their culture difference, attitude difference etc. She showed the different ways to say hello in many languages. It really gave us an insight about how the people greet each other around the world and the precautionary tips while communicating with people from other culture.

Be Familiar with International Languages

Every morning the students of F.Y. B.Ed. introduced simple vocabulary of various international languages during Assembly. This was helpful for students to make familiarize with different languages used all over the world. It is helpful to understand and embrace the diversity of our world. It provides an insight about how the people of different countries treat each other. It is essential for a teacher to communicate with students of multicultural classroom.

Collection of Information about Various Countries

A person armed with good knowledge can give his confidence a solid boost before and during a public speech. The students of F.Y. B.Ed.: Priyanka, Swetha, Sanika, Sammiya and Princy had prepared the details of different countries. The students enjoyed collecting the information about different countries which helps on academic and teaching front. The students were actively participated in the work. It encouraged team work and mutual support in students.

Online Sessions to Develop Digital Skills

In technology era, it is a need of an hour that teachers should have required digital skills. To make student teachers competent to face global challenges of technology-oriented world, Dr. Geeta R Thakur conducted online sessions for B.Ed. students through two-way video conferencing. They learnt various tools, techniques which are useful in education. Student teachers learnt to use Dropbox, Google doc, video making software, mind mapping software etc. students also learnt to make multimedia presentations, using video conferencing software, creating worksheets, games, crosswords etc. They enjoyed learning creation of blog and spoken tutorials. Students were also made aware about various educational websites, free software. They developed the skill of web surfing.

Technology Tip of a Day

Every morning students share tips related to using technology in the classroom. This practice helps them in increasing knowledge and skill of ICT in education.
