Community service day is an initiative by the Mahatma Education Society to reciprocate and fulfil their social responsibility towards the local community. The event incorporates community engagement, joyful activities to engage community members and create lasting connections. All institutions under the MES banner have a partnership with an NGO who run the Mercy Home for underprivileged children. The members of the NGO were invited for a sumptuous meal followed by some games and activities. This year the event was spearheaded by Student Teacher Volunteers who under the guidance of Professors of Pillai College of Education and Research, visited the home to welcome and get 24 children of diverse age groups from Jr Kg to 12th grade to the Pillai Main campus for a joyful day ahead. After an enjoyable luncheon, kids were energetic and engaged in different games with balloons and music, buckets and balls etc to augment the fun experience. Games like musical pillows in which children enjoyed singing songs, bursting the balloons, red light green light, burst the city, musical chairs etc entertained the children and also enabled them to work in teams, engage in peer learning and also enjoy each other’s company. The event highlight was the bollywood song and dance session, which was enjoyed by children and organizers alike. The concluding session commenced with snacks and refreshments at 4:30 p.m., followed by distribution of gifts on behalf of Pillai Group. The event created beautiful memories for the children to cherish and also for volunteers to reminisce with gratitude for being able to make a small difference to their lives.
